Getting Started with BACnet
GENESIS supports various data communication protocols, and one of them is Building Automation and Control Network (BACnet). The detailed specification of the protocol is defined by the BACnet Standard, or ANSI/ASHRAE 135. This Help and other GENESIS documentation refer to it as BACnet specification. If needed, you can download the document from https://bacnet.org/buy.
GENESIS uses a BACnet Point Manager as a quick and efficient tool for connecting BACnet devices in existing or new building management systems and providing BACnet data to other GENESIS components.
The BACnet point manager is based on the BACnet/IP protocol with the support of BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC). It is designed for the ASHRAE 135-2020 version, BACnet Protocol Revision 24, and complies with Protocol Revision 19.
To start using BACnet in your projects in GENESIS:
- Check the configuration of the BACnet point manager, and edit it as needed. For example, you can change the default database or SQL Server. Learn how
- Create and store the certificates for BACnet Secure Connect. Learn how
- Configure at least one BACnet channel. Learn how
- Discover existing BACnet devices in the network or networks that you want to associate with that channel. Learn how
